Rajmata Vidya Balan will now honor the plebs with her gracious presence. One by one please.
The last time this look took centerstage was in Aandhi, on Suchitra Sen. In which Suchitra Sen was playing the role of a dowager politician in her 60s. And it was half a century back. And even then, Suchitra’s blouses were not cut so high and her pearls were not so matronly. Enough said.
I actually want to rip out the cover-every-millimeter sleeves and chokingly high neck of this outfit. The sari is not all that bad (relatively speaking, of course) but paired with all that red that has absolutely no contrast, the sweater-like blouse and severe hair, it’s ageing her by about 30 years. And adding at least 20 kgs to her frame. As for the choice of colors, does anybody not realise that the whole monochromatic palette is making Vidya blend right into the red carpet??!!??
And the pearls don’t match! The ones on her neck are white, while those in the ears are champagne-hued. How could the stylist/designer/Vidya herself have missed that? Oh, and wait a minute… are the earrings actually recycled from a couple of days back? On an international red carpet? Wow!
To add to our misery, the beyond-nude eye makeup is simply making her look tired and sleepy. C’mon Vidya, showing a little bit of skin and wearing some bright makeup and non-grandmotherly clothes will not take away from the seriousness of being a jury member.
Oh! And in case you didn’t get it till now, this is another costume by Sabyasachi. Vidya, Vidya, Vidya… do get over the Sabyasachi hangover now. I wouldn’t be surprised if you are actually wandering the aisles of Cannes, whipping out visiting cards and saying “Hi! My name is Vidya Balan and I am the official ambassador of this label. Here’s the card.” As things stand, your whole Cannes outing is beginning to look gimmicky with just one look re-packaged and presented every single time.
Yawn…………….zzzzzzzzzzz……………………zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz……………………………
